Dubai, April 1 -- Iranian nationals are no longer allowed to enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE) or transit through the country unless they hold a UAE Golden Visa, according to updates on several UAE airline websites.

Emirates Airlines stated on its website: "Iranian citizens are prohibited from entry and transit."Emirates and Etihad, as well as the lower-cost airline FlyDubai, made the announcements on their websites.

Flydubai clarified that the restriction does not apply to Iranian citizens with a Golden Visa. In its passport and visa section, the airline noted, "Restrictions on citizenship.
