Vienna, April 21 -- Iran's mission to the United Nations in Vienna said on Tuesday that the upcoming 2026 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference should prioritise long-standing commitments towards establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.
Representatives from most of the 191 states-parties to the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) will assemble in New York for the meeting from April 27-May 22 amid multiple challenges to the treaty, which is the foundation of global efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, to further the goals of nuclear disarmament, and to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy under effective international safeguards.
