Tehran, Feb. 1 -- Iran's parliament has moved to designate the armed forces of the EU member states as terrorist organisations, following Brussel's decision to formally blacklist Iran's theocratic paramilitary force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

IRGC spokesperson Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, citing Article 7 of Iran's Countermeasures Act, said the move was enacted in direct retaliation against Brussel's actions.

"In response to the designation of the IRGC by the EU as a terrorist organisation, the armed forces of EU countries are considered terrorist groups, and the consequences of these actions will be shouldered by the EU," he was quoted as saying by state media.
