Washington, April 15 -- President Donald Trump claimed that he prevented Iran from taking over the Middle East, adding that Gulf countries were not "expected to be hit" amid the ongoing conflict.

"They were going over to take over the Middle East, and we stopped them," Trump said in the interview with Fox News. He credited his decision to launch strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities for having averted such a scenario.

Trump said after he suggested that another round of peace talks "could be happening over the next two days" in Pakistan.

Trump also asserted that if the US had not acted, Tehran would have attacked countries across the Middle East within weeks. He again criticized the Obama administration's 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
