Shillong, Oct. 13 -- Meghalaya government today observed the International Day of Girl Child, 2025, amid a series of recent incidents of missing and murdered children here in the State capital.

The Social Welfare department observed the day under the theme "The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis," at Lariti auditorium, Mawkasiang.

The event highlighted the achievements, resilience, and leadership of girls from across the state. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma who addressed the gathering led the audience into a two-minute's silence to honour the lives of children lost in recent incidents, reminding all of the fragility of life and the need for vigilance and protection.
