Puducherry, Feb. 12 -- Infrastructure inefficiencies in the marine fisheries sector cause wastage of 25 to 35 million tonnes of fish globally every year, according to a global study.
In developing countries, fish loss and waste account for 20 to 35 per cent of total production, with some regions experiencing lossesof up to 75 per cent, posing a major threat to nutrition security and economic sustainability, a new joint study by United Nations-Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO).
