New Delhi, Feb. 25 -- A Department of Science and Technology (DST)-supported institute in Northeast India has developed a novel bio-based compound that could replace conventional synthetic lubricants and surfactants used in cosmetics and related industries.
The compound, a biosurfactant synthesised from natural sources, has demonstrated promising antibacterial and cleansing properties.
The newly developed biosurfactant has been found to act effectively against Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium responsible for skin and wound infections.
When blended with commercial face washes, it demonstrated enhanced stain-removal efficiency. This suggests potential applications not only in cosmetic formulations but also in medicinal products.
