Bengaluru, Feb. 17 -- With South Asia projected to need around 500 helicopters over the next 20 years, India is positioning itself as the region's rotary-wing manufacturing hub, union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said on Tuesday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the H125 helicopter final assembly facility, Naidu highlighted that the plant - India's first private-sector helicopter assembly line - will manufacture both civil and defence variants.

The facility will be certified by the European union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) from inception, marking a historic milestone for the country's aerospace industry.
