New Delhi, Feb. 20 -- India's move to add its voice to the joint statement criticising Israel's actions in the West Bank by expanding its presence there is not a surprise.

India has long supported a negotiated two-State solution, resulting in a sovereign, independent, viable and united State of Palestine, living within secure and recognised borders, side by side at peace with Israel.

New Delhi views this as central to a lasting resolution of the conflict. India was the first non-Arab country to recognise the State of Palestine in 1988. Officials feel the move is a continuation of the official Palestine policy and not a shift ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Israel next week.
