Chennai, April 16 -- Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying George Kurian on Wednesday said India's fish production increased from 95 lakh tonnes to 184 lakh tonnes under Prime Minister Narendra Modi government in ten years.

Inaugurating various projects under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in Puducherry, he announced that transponders would be installed in 2,300 fishing boats in Puducherry under PMMSY.

These will enable fishers to communicate with their families, seek emergency medical assistance, receive alerts when crossing international maritime boundaries, and get real-time information on fish availability, he said.
