Parwinder SandhuVisakhapatnam, Feb. 20 -- India on Friday took over the Chairmanship of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) after 16 years, with Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi assuming the role during the 9th edition of the IONS Conclave of Chiefs.
Admiral Tripathi succeeded Admiral Pairote Fuengchan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy.
The IONS Chairmanship rotates every two years among member countries, with each cycle including a Conclave of Chiefs and an IONS Preparatory Workshop at the staff level.
During the Conclave of Chiefs, the Chair's work plan is finalised, and major decisions are taken at the level of Chiefs of Navy or Heads of maritime agencies.
