Lucknow, Aug. 22 -- As the Supreme Court ordered sterlization of all stray dogs, in the country's largest state Uttar Pradesh, 28,43,744 lakh people have been victims of dog bites between January and July this year.

Out of these, stray dogs have made 22,50,218 people their victims, while 1,51,627 lakh people have been victims of pet dog bites.

If we look at the statistics of animal bites in UP from January to July, it is revealed that 33,83,712 lakh people have been victims of animal bites.

These include cases of bites from street dogs to pet dogs, cats, monkeys, jackals, foxes, horses.

According to Dr Pankaj Saxena of the state Directorate General of Health, 1,51,627 people have been bitten by cats.
