Akola, April 9 -- A love marriage between two individuals from different religions ended in a horrifying manner, as the husband allegedly murdered his wife and attempted to burn her body to destroy evidence in Maharashtra's Akola city, police said on Thursday.

The incident came to light after a half-burnt body of an unidentified woman was found near Annapurna Mata temple under the jurisdiction of Dabki Road police station.

Due to severe burns, identification initially proved difficult, police said.

During the probe, police examined CCTV footage and checked missing persons records.
