Dimapur, Feb. 28 -- Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday virtually launched the national Human Papillomavirus vaccination programme against cervical cancer at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima. The national launch was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The programme marks a significant step towards the prevention of cervical cancer in the country.

Commissioner and Secretary for Health and Family Welfare, Anoop Khinchi, stressed the importance of HPV vaccination in protecting young girls from cervical cancer. He said nearly 90.79 per cent of cervical cancer cases are caused by persistent infection of the genital tract by high risk HPV types.
