Shimla, July 27 -- Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi today strongly defended the state government's decision to shift the College of Horticulture and Forestry from Thunag to Sundernagar in Mandi district, stating that the move was made purely on safety grounds.

He alleged that a few local businessmen and BJP workers were politicising the issue for their personal benefit, even going so far as to insult the National Flag during a protest in Thunag.

While addressing mediapersons here, Negi said, "It is not right to put the lives of children at risk just to benefit a few businessmen. The area has faced recurring natural disasters in 2023 and 2024. Many students staying in rented houses told us they do not feel safe returning....
