Shimla, Jan. 30 -- The Himachal Pradesh government is finalising a stringent legislative amendment aimed at disqualifying individuals involved in drug trafficking, particularly of the synthetic drug "Chitta", from contesting elections to Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
The draft bill, prepared after consultations with the Law Department, is likely to be tabled in the forthcoming budget session of the Legislative Assembly.
According to the proposed law, anyone caught with Chitta or against whom an FIR (first information report) has been registered for drug trafficking would be barred from standing in panchayat elections.
