Shimla, Feb. 15 -- Facing a tightening fiscal environment after a reduction in central transfers, the Himachal Pradesh government has turned to structural reforms in its Excise regime to strengthen its own revenue base.

The State Tax and Excise Department is banking on policy recalibration, competitive bidding and digital transparency to deliver a significant jump in collections in 2026-27.

The move is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and ease of doing business while curbing cartelisation and monopoly practices in liquor trade.
