Patna, Jan. 3 -- Bihar agriculture minister Mangal Pandey said that the contribution of horticulture especially fruits, flowers, vegetables and spices were playing a major role in the states economy.

Pandey said here on Friday that agriculture, which is the backbone of the economy was also associated with the socio-cultural activities in the state.

Referring to the economic growth, Pandey said that the per capita income of Bihar in 2005 was Rs 7500 which has now gone up to Rs 66000. In this per capita income growth, the enhanced income of farmers contributed majorly.

The Minister said that Horticulture was being promoted for the prosperity of the farmers which would help in overall growth and progress of the state.
