Srinagar, Sept. 25 -- Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said the violent clashes in Leh were a direct fallout of New Delhi's unilateral decision of August 5, 2019, to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, and the unkept promises thereafter of granting statehood.

At least four people were killed and dozens injured in Leh yesterday when protests demanding statehood for Ladakh and its inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution turned violent, prompting the administration to impose curfew-like restrictions.
