Nagpur, Dec. 11 -- The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), a right-wing organisation, on Wednesday called on the Maharashtra government to enact a stringent law targeting what it refers to as "love jihad" during the ongoing winter session of the state legislature in Nagpur.
The phrase "love jihad" is used by some right-wing groups to allege that Muslim men pursue relationships with Hindu women for the purpose of converting them to Islam.
The HJS stated that it recently carried out a statewide campaign in collaboration with more than 160 Hindu organisations across 20 districts.
The drive urged the government to introduce legislation aimed at preventing what they claim are forced religious conversions through marriage.
