Shimla, March 2 -- In a major setback to drug control and enforcement agencies in the state, Himachal Pradesh High Court has quashed the preventive detention of an accused booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhiwalia and Justice Bipin Chandra Negi passed the order while allowing a criminal writ petition filed by Ankush Thakur recently released to media here on Monday.
The court set aside the detention of petitioner ordered by the SP Solan dated December 6, 2025 under PIT NDPS Act, holding that the detaining authority had failed to apply its mind properly.
