Shimla, Oct. 30 -- The Himachal Pradesh High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of a representation received from students of Government Degree College, Jawalamukhi, about shifting of a liquor vend allegedly operating in proximity to their educational institution and within 100 metres of the national highway.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice GS Sandhawalia and Justice Jiya Lal Bhardwaj registered the matter as court on its own motion vs State of Himachal Pradesh and others. The court noted that the grievance raised by the students required judicial examination due to the apparent violation of distance norms prescribed for liquor vends.
