Shimla, Aug. 9 -- Himachal Pradesh High Court on Thursday impleaded the Union of India through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as a party in an ongoing public interest litigation concerning the implementation of counselling facilities in mental health institutions.

The move aims to ensure compliance with the Mental Health Care Act, 2017, in providing professional counselling to inmates, including those in detention centres, orphanages, beggars' homes, women's protection homes, and children's homes.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Ranjan Sharma passed the order while hearing connected matters CWP (No. 3255 of 2020 ) and CWPIL (No. 62 of 2025).
