Shimla, Jan. 9 -- Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday said the state government would provide permanent (pucca) houses to eligible poor families still living in mud (kutcha) dwellings, underlining the government's commitment to ensuring safe and dignified housing for all.

Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Panchayati Raj Department here, the Chief Minister said secure housing was not only a basic necessity but also a social right.

He said the government was taking concrete steps to ensure that no eligible family remained without permanent shelter.

He said the government's objective extended beyond house construction to improving the overall standard of living of poor families.
