Shimla, Feb. 26 -- Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Vinay Kumar on Thursday accused the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of curbing freedom of expression and suppressing democratic dissent across the country.

In a statement issued here, he alleged that an atmosphere akin to an "undeclared emergency" prevails, where individuals are not free to criticise the government or hold protests. He claimed that members of the Indian Youth Congress were detained in Delhi for staging peaceful demonstrations, which he described as an attempt to silence the voice of the youth.

Vinay Kumar further alleged that actions by the Delhi Police amounted to interference beyond its jurisdiction.
