Lucknow, Jan. 16 -- A sudden return of dense fog across Uttar Pradesh amid biting cold conditions led to a sharp rise in road accidents on Friday, claiming one life and injuring at least 40 people.

After a brief improvement in weather, heavy fog engulfed the state once again, reducing visibility to near zero in several areas.

According to reports, dense fog covered Lucknow, Barabanki and nearly 35 districts, severely disrupting road traffic. Poor visibility resulted in at least eight major accidents across the state, involving around 24 vehicles.
