Shimla, Feb. 11 -- Health services in Himachal Pradesh are becoming increasingly unaffordable, with treatment at the state's premier hospital turning costlier following a steep hike in user charges approved by the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS).

Decisions taken at the February 9 meeting of the IGMC RKS directed the hospital administration to levy additional user charges, including registration slips, and revised fees for health services such as PET scans, MRI, CT scans, and special wards.

The sharp increase follows the RKS directives, as funds meant for poor patients have reportedly been withheld until the demand for health funds is finalized in the state assembly, raising serious concerns over access to healthcare for the common man.
