Nagpur, Feb. 20 -- The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on Friday expressed serious concern over what it described as a growing trend of criminal cases arising from matrimonial disputes being used as a means of exerting pressure during marital conflicts.
A single-judge bench of Justice Pravin Patil made the observation while setting aside an FIR registered by Wardha police against a man, his parents and other relatives.
The case had been filed by his estranged wife, who accused them of cruelty and harassment under Section 498-A of the Indian Penal Code.
In its ruling, the court observed that Section 498-A, which was enacted to safeguard women from cruelty in marriage, is increasingly being invoked over minor disagreements.
