Lucknow, Sept. 27 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the increasing number of cases related to the installation and removal of statues on public land, and has directed the matter to be treated as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).

The division bench comprising Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Prashant Kumar passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Amit Verma on the installation of a statue of former MLA Indrabhadra Singh on government land in Sultanpur district.

The petition had sought the removal of the statue.
