Shimla, Feb. 28 -- The Himachal Pradesh High Court has held that a judicial verdict granting promotion and pensionary benefits cannot be nullified through a retrospective amendment in law, observing that while the legislature is competent to enact laws, it cannot render a court judgment ineffective by overriding it through fresh legislation.

The observation came in Ashwani Kumar versus State of Himachal Pradesh and Others, decided on February 27 by a Division Bench comprising Justice Vivek Singh Thakur and Justice Ranjan Sharma.
