Ranchi, Feb. 20 -- In a first for Jharkhand, the forest department in Hazaribagh has decided to fit a radio collar on a female elephant that was part of a herd involved in the death of seven persons within 24 hours earlier this month.

Officials said the device has been procured and preparations are underway to tranquilise and collar the elephant, described as highly aggressive. The incident had occurred in Gondwar village under Churchu block, where a group of five elephants trampled seven people to death, triggering panic in the region.
