Chandigarh, Nov. 5 -- A man allegedly under the influence of alcohol was stopped from entering the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar on Tuesday, coinciding with the celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's 556th birth anniversary.

According to eyewitnesses, the man, identified as a resident of Karnal, Haryana, had been living in Amritsar for the past three months. He reportedly arrived near the holy shrine in an intoxicated state and began behaving inappropriately among devotees.

When questioned by those present, he admitted to consuming alcohol.

SGPC sewadars on duty swiftly intervened and escorted him out of the premises to prevent any untoward incident inside the sanctum area.
