Chandigarh, Nov. 19 -- In a shocking incident in Punjab's Gurdaspur district, a jail security guard shot dead his wife and mother-in-law before turning the gun on himself after an hour-long police standoff.

The violence unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday in Guthi village, rooted in what officials describe as a long-standing domestic dispute.

According to police, the accused, identified as Gurpreet Singh, a guard deployed at the Central Jail Gurdaspur through a private security agency, reached home late at night carrying his issued AK-47 rifle. Around 3 a.m., he allegedly opened fire on his wife, Akvinder Kaur, and mother-in-law, Gurjit Kaur, killing both on the spot.
