Washington, Feb. 8 -- Brad Arnold, the lead singer of Grammy-nominated rock band '3 Doors Down', passed away on Saturday at the age of 47, months after revealing he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer.

The band said in a statement, "He passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer."Formed in Mississippi in 1995, 3 Doors Down received a Grammy nomination four years later for their breakout hit "Kryptonite," which Arnold wrote in math class at age 15, according to the band's statement.
