New Delhi, Jan. 21 -- The Ministry of Power on Wednesday released the Draft National Electricity Policy (NEP) 2026, opening it for stakeholder and public consultation.

The proposed policy framework is designed to modernise India's power sector and align it with the country's long-term development goals under the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.

The draft policy is intended to replace the existing National Electricity Policy first notified in 2005.

Over the past two decades, India's electricity landscape has witnessed dramatic transformation -- generation capacity has risen multiple times, universal electrification has been achieved and a unified national grid has been established.
