Nagpur, May 3 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the state government will seek the death penalty for the accused in the Pune child rape-murder case and ensure that the trial is conducted on a fast-track basis to deliver justice at the earliest.
A 65-year-old man with a criminal record has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting and murdering a four-year-old girl in Bhor tehsil of Pune district on May 1.
The incident sparked widespread outrage in the Bhor area, with hundreds of villagers staging protests and demanding stringent action against the accused.
Opposition parties have also criticised the state government over the law-and-order situation and called for strict punishment.
