Parwinder SandhuNew Delhi, March 9 -- The government on Monday dismissed as "fake" claims circulating on social media that India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had ordered the Indian Navy to assist in an attack on an Iranian ship and that Navy Chief Dinesh Kumar Tripathi was preparing to resign, calling them part of a Pakistani disinformation campaign targeting India.
The Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit said the allegations, also claiming that Vice Chief of Naval Staff Sanjay Vatsayan assisted in the purported attack, were being spread by a Pakistani propaganda handle and had no basis in fact. It urged the public to rely only on official government sources for credible information.
