Kochi, Dec. 23 -- Gold prices in Kerala surged to an all-time high on Tuesday, with the rate for one sovereign (8 grams) of 22-carat gold touching Rs 1,01,600 for the first time.

The price per gram stood at Rs 12,700, marking a record in the state's bullion market. The sharp rise has taken gold beyond the psychologically significant Rs 1 lakh mark per sovereign, underscoring the sustained rally witnessed in recent months.

Kerala traditionally holds a substantial share of household gold, with estimates suggesting over 2,000 tonnes in private possession and annual trade volumes ranging between 125 and 150 tonnes, making local price movements especially impactful for consumers and jewellers.
