Shimla, Feb. 13 -- Amid mounting criticism over alleged wasteful expenditure and increasing pressure on non-elected political appointees to adopt stricter austerity measures, a senior aide of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister has claimed that he continues to serve on a token honorarium of Re 1.

An official communication issued from the Office of the Principal Adviser on February 12, 2026, addressed to the General Administration Department, states that Gokul Butail, Principal Adviser (Innovation, Digital Technologies & Governance) to the Chief Minister, has conveyed his desire to continue drawing a token honorarium of Re 1 for the financial year 2026-27, as in previous financial years.
