Jowai, Dec. 11 -- A 35-year-old Ghanaian national has been arrested in Meghalaya for travelling under a fake name, and attempting to cross over to Bangladesh, police said on Thursday.

A police official said the Ghanaian national, identified as William Addo Agyei, had initially claimed to be Stanley Obayendo, but during interrogation he revealed his true identity.

Agyei was captured by Nongtalang villagers on the edge of India-Bangladesh border under West Jaintia Hills district on December 8, they said.

"He (Agyei) was attempting to flee to Bangladesh, as per initial interrogation," Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the district police chief of West Jaintia Hills said.
