Accra, March 28 -- Ghana has withdrawn from hosting the 2026 African Swimming Championships, according to a statement by the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA).
According to the association, the withdrawal stems from the failure of the country's Sports and Recreation Ministry to approve the hosting of the championships as well as internal governance challenges.
"The association, on November 14, 2025, formally notified the ministry and sought its approval and acceptance to proceed with hosting the championships. Regrettably, no formal response has been received from the ministry to date," read the statement.
