Berlin, Oct. 16 -- Germany plans to invest over €10 billion ($10.8 billion) in the next few years in a bid to substantially increase its fleet of military drones, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced on Wednesday, signalling Berlin's growing role in Europe's evolving air defence strategy.

Berlin's increased expenses for expanded drone program, comes amid the growing militarisation of the EU, as member states - particularly Poland, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany - are ramping up their air defence capabilities for responding to any future military aggression by Russia.
