Guwahati, Sept. 2 -- A Gauhati High Court judge today questioned how a private companycan buy 3000 bighas of land from an autonomous council under the Sixth Schedule area of Indian Constitution.

Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi of the Gauhati High court was hearing a writ petition over alleged sale of 3000 bighas of land in Assam's Dima Hasao district to a Cement company.

Assam's Advocate General Devajit Saikia while representing the state government, informed the court that the cement company bought the 3000 bighas of land from North Cachar HillsAutonomous Council Autonomous Council (NCHAC).

"How can the cement company buy 3000 bighas of land? Where does the ceiling act then?" said Justice Medhi.
