Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 23 -- In a rare medical feat, a 49-year-old man from Kanpur has been given a new lease of life after doctors successfully performed a highly complex procedure known as the Frozen Elephant Trunk (FET) surgery to repair a dangerous tear in his aorta, the main blood vessel carrying blood from the heart.

The patient, who had earlier undergone emergency treatment for acute aortic dissection, was found during a routine scan to have developed a fresh dissection involving the aortic arch and descending thoracic aorta, a condition that can turn fatal without timely intervention.
