Mumbai, March 6 -- Former Tripura deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed Governor of Maharashtra by President Droupadi Murmu as part of a wider reshuffle of Governors across the country.
The notification was issued on March 6. Varma is yet to take oath as the Governor.
Born on Aug 15, 1957, in Agartala, Tripura, Varma belongs to the state's erstwhile royal family. He is the nephew of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur and the uncle of Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma.
His father Ramendra Kishore Debbarma served as military secretary and home secretary to the Maharaja. Varma completed his BA (Honours) in English Literature from the University of Calcutta.
