Giridih, Feb. 21 -- Former Zila Parishad Chairman Rakesh Mahto was found murdered in Giridih district of Jharkhand, with his half-burnt body recovered from the Khankhi forest on Saturday.
According to sources, unidentified persons allegedly attempted to burn the body using dry leaves after committing the murder. Upon receiving information, police teams from Nimiaghat and Dumri, led by Dumri Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sumit Kumar, reached the spot and launched an investigation.
Mahto was considered a prominent political figure in the Dumri region. After winning the Zila Parishad election, he served as Chairman of the district council in 2016 and was regarded as an influential and popular leader in the area.
