Chennai, April 2 -- A local court in Villupuram district on Thursday acquitted former Tamil Nadu Minister and ruling DMK strongman K Ponmudy, his son Gautam Sigamani, and five others in the Rs 28.36 crore llegal red sand quarrying case.
Pronouncing the verdict, Villupuram Principal District Judge A. Manimozhi acquitted all the seven accused from the accused due to lack of evidence.
Apart from Mr Ponmudy and son, the five other acquitted persons are Jayachandran, Raja Mahendran, Sadanandam, Kodhakumar and Gopinathan.
In all eight people were booked in the case. However, one of them, Loganathan died during the course of the trial.
