Baghmara, Jan. 22 -- Fifty-four years after Meghalaya was carved out of Assam, Baghmara, the remotest district headquarters of South Garo Hills, celebrated the statehood day for the first time.
Unlike the previous government, wherein statehood day was celebrated at the state capital, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma decided that statehood day should be celebrated in the district headquarters, reaffirming the government's commitment to inclusive development.
Sangma, along with his Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home, Prestone Tynsong and Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, were present in Baghmara.
