Shillong, Feb. 18 -- The report of the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy, which was tabled in the Meghalaya assembly on Wednesday, has recommended the state government retain the 1972 Reservation Policy as it stands, even as it recommended the government to examine the introduction of the "creamy layer" principle.

The committee headed by Justice (Retd.) Mool Chand Garg stated that the majority of the stakeholders supported the continuation of the existing framework and that no compelling grounds presently exist for fundamental alteration.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma formally tabled the report, which cautioned the government that any change in the policy could be vulnerable to judicial review.
