Karimnagar, Jan. 4 -- The centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of India (CPI) reached a crescendo in Karimnagar on Sunday with a massive rally and public meeting, marked by drum beats, Kolatam dances and cultural performances that turned the city red with party flags and volunteers.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest, CPI National Secretary and former MLA Palla Venkat Reddy said the CPI's hundred-year journey was rooted in people's struggles, sacrifices and movements, recalling that it was the first party to call for complete independence and played a decisive role in the freedom struggle and the Telangana armed struggle against the Nizam.
